St. Charles, Missouri -
Jan 21, 2006
Missouri State Representative
Sherman Parker will
be a guest Sunday, January 22,
on the "Georgia Peach" Radio
Show with host Bishop
Imagene Stewart. The show airs
every Sunday morning from
8-10 am (EST) on WOL-AM 1010 in
Baltimore and 1450 in Washington
D.C. Sherman Thompson Parker
is a Republican in his second
term representing parts of St.
Charles County in the Missouri
House of Representatives.
Representative Parker will be
discussing the future of
African-Americans in the
Republican Party and the need
for the GOP to formulate more
effective outreach efforts
towards the African-American
community. Parker will also be
discussing domestic violence and
his pending legislation in the
Missouri House of
Representatives which gives
power to local police to
temporarily confiscate
firearms at domestic violence
incidents. Representative Parker
was motivated to sponsor this
bill by a constituent who wrote
to him about her own personal
tragedy involving domestic
violence. In addition to these
important topics, he will
discuss his candidacy for the
United States Congress in
Missouri's second district.
Bishop Imagene B. Stewart is
the head of DC’s
African-American Women’s Clergy
Association and the pastor of
The Greater Pearly Gates Baptist
Church. In 1992, she was honored
with the prestigious “Living the
Dream” award for her service to
battered women, the homeless,
and the nation’s veterans. In
1972, her vision for a 12-bed
safe haven became a reality, and
was named, fittingly, The House
of Imagene. Today, this labor of
love is a compassionate and
reliable presence on the front
lines of domestic violence,
providing shelter from the storm
to victims throughout the
DC-area and beyond.
